The American Brain Tumor Association’s 2025 National Conference brought patients, caregivers, clinicians, researchers, and advocates together for three meaningful days of education, community, and unwavering hope. Co-Chairs Ashley Ghiaseddin, MD, and Ashlee Loughan, PhD, led this year’s hybrid event in Schaumburg, Illinois, creating space to learn about cutting-edge science while honoring the personal, practical, and emotional realities of the brain tumor journey.
Every session, every conversation, and every connection reminds us why this conference matters: progress accelerates when community and science stand side by side.
Tackling Finances: Money Matters with Aimee Hoch
In one of the most talked-about sessions, oncology financial navigator Aimee Hoch, MSW, LSW, OSW-C, FACCC equips attendees with real-world tools to navigate the financial challenges of care. From disability benefits and copay assistance to insurance guidance and hospital programs, Hoch gives patients and caregivers confidence to advocate for themselves.
She emphasizes what many in the room feel daily: financial well-being is part of cancer care, and support early in treatment can change outcomes and reduce stress.
“As a provider here at the National Conference, I just want to say how thoughtfully put together this was… I’ve been to a lot of conferences, and I enjoyed this one so much,” Hoch shares, reflecting the event’s compassionate and practical impact.
Behind the Scenes: Inside the Brain Tumor Board
Another standout session opened the doors to a real-world tumor board, revealing how neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists collaborate on complex treatment decisions.
For many attendees, seeing the decision-making process firsthand deepened trust and demystified an often-invisible part of their care journey.
