The Oligodendroglioma Roundtable
The American Brain Tumor Association convened a gathering of thirteen distinguished researchers in Chicago last month to determine strategic directions in the research funding of a rare brain tumor called oligodendroglioma. The ABTA/Jacobs Oligodendroglioma Roundtable discussion addressed the special challenges to progress in the the research and treatment of this small disease population. NIH Challange Grants
NIH has announced the availability of at least $200 million for a new initiative called the NIH Challenge Grants in Health and Science Research. The funding is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act). The new program will support research into specific scientific challenges in biomedical and behavioral research that would benefit from significant 2-year jumpstart funds. Radiation therapy is a commonly used treatment for malignant brain tumors. In certain circumstances, it may also be used for benign tumors.
