2010 Medical Student Summer Fellowships
The American Brain Tumor Association is now accepting applications for the 2010 American Brain Tumor Association Medical Student Summer Fellowship Program. The intent of this program is to motivate talented medical students to pursue a career in neuro-oncology research.
ABTA Medical Student Summer Fellowships are $3,000 grants to current medical students wishing to spend a summer conducting brain tumor research. The fellowship is to be conducted in a neuro-oncology laboratory with a mentorship setting designed to provide an introductory learning experience. The fellowship start date is determined by the mentor and should extend 10-12 weeks over the summer. A report of this research experience is due upon completion of the Fellowship, but must be received by October 1st, 2010.
The $3,000 grant is made in two equal payments: $1500 in June at the beginning of the research period, and $1500 upon receipt of the student’s written outcomes report. Instructions for that report will be provided to successful applicants and mentors.
At the conclusion of the summer program, reports will be reviewed by ABTA Scientific Advisory Council members. The student author of the most meritorious paper will receive an additional award of $1,000 and appropriate recognition. Please note, all award payments are made to institutions only. We cannot make funds payable to students or mentors.
Applications are due in the ABTA office by March 12th, 2010. Successful applicants will be notified by April 12th, 2010.
