What I thought was wrong with me was not. Instead, it is a brain tumor. Now the road begins...

I am a 45 year old mother of 2 and grandmother of 3. In 2001, I went to my family doctor thinking I was going through normal changes in my life. I later found out the symptoms I was experiencing were seizures caused by a mixed glioma- oligodendroglioma astrocytoma. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I never thought I would hear those words. It crushed me and my family.

After the initial shock, I was sent to a neurologist and neurosurgeon. Since then I have had 2 surgeries, radiation and chemotherapy. They were not able to remove the entire tumor in fear of harming my motor functions. I get regular MRI's to monitor the tumor.

I moved from Florida to South Carolina and miss my doctors in Florida. I have not yet found a local neurologist so I make a 3 hour trek to Florida each time I need to see the doctor. The medical bills I carried from Florida and South Carolina just keep coming. Bill collectors are not fun people to deal with!

I watched my mother battle cancer for 34 years. She was an inspiration to me and everyone at the Hope Lodge in Florida. She passed away 1 week before Christmas 2006. She was such a strong person and fought right to the end and so will I.
